2012.11.24 Noir d'Ebene

Yesterday we played again at the Noir d'Ebene, as always the owners treated us very well, it is great to play there. Perhaps it was the inminent snow falling over Montreal, but the place was almost empty, just a few customers ventured to go dine at the Noir d'Ebene. For those checking this journal, we recommend the quality of the food, you have to try their specialities, they are great. Since this is a restaurant, we had to keep the volume as low as possible, which it is a challenge for us... but playing softly actually was a great experience, we left the place without the feeling of being totally demolished as we often do.

2012.11.22 Lionel-Groulx

Last Thursday we had the opportunity to play at the College Lionel-Groulx, which offers a program of Jazz concerts where the students (and ex-students) have access to play, see others musicians on the stage on a very intimate, cozy atmosphere. We went there without knowing what to expect, as it happens when you play at a venue for the first time. The organizer Vincent Larose and the sound man for the night Pierre-Luc Gauthier were nothing but helpful, focused on making the night a great experience, truly professional people that are an absolute pleasure to work with.

For the night we had an opening band made of 5 ex-students of this College (they have a great music program there) that played about 5 tunes, their musicality and their groove was spectacular, I am still trying to digest the drummer they had, an absolute gem.

We had a 18 songs set, that we plan to play in 1 shot. Old as we are (:^) this is for us a little bit of a challenge, but it seems we were able to maintain the public interested during the complete set, as their engagement and participation made the night incredible for us. They ended giving us an standing ovation, which was an unbelievable moment we will always remember. 2012.10.24 Club Balattou

Last Sunday we returned to our favorite venue, the Club Balattou. As always the gig went great, the sound was awesome and the patrons of the place offered us the space and time to get our stuff well setup. For the occasion we tried a couple of new songs. Out of everything we recorded the three tunes below sounded pretty good.

That night we did not have a lot of public, as Sundays are tough to get people out of their couches, specially those that have to go to work next day. In spite of that, there was a small yet very noisy crowd that really enjoyed the show, to the point that on some tunes they hit the floor and started dancing, specially with Camaguey and Baghdad. Thank you very much for coming to see us, and to Julien and Daniel Kasongo (incredible percussionist) that deliver some music between the two sets.

2012.09.22 Noir d'Ebene

Yesterday we played at the Noir d'Ebene restaurant for the first time. As it always happens to us, at the time we jumped on the scene we had a flood-like-rain pouring down which invited a lot of people to stay at home. The ones that came clearly had an excellent time, the food and mood of the place is great, and the addition of our trio performing made the whole thing very inviting. 

The place owners treated us very well, we felt great throughout the event. This time we were able to record a few videos with very nice lighting, which are below. One of them is a brand new tune, "Palais de Sable" (sand castle) that was 1 week old, and spite the bumpy start if sounded very well. More of this kind of music will be coming in the future.

2012.08.31 Espace Alize

We had another presentation at the Espace Alize, the sound was excellent and we had a lot of fun. For the occasion we had Diego Vacca on Percussion, he spiced up some of our songs. This time we had a few new tunes, including a highly complex composition we named "Depart de Montevideo", an very emotional song that goes through several harmonic and rhythmic sequences, and tells the story of how people feel each time they leave their country of origin after each visit, and come back to their place of adoption. We also played "Krakatoa" for the first time, tune that tells the incredible story of the famous volcano; we go through the first calming moments, then to the build up and towards the end the incredible explosion that disintegrated the island.

That night we also had a good version of "Nebuchadnezzar, King of Babylon", which you will find below.
